Planned shutdowns and routine stock replenishment put very different kinds of items on the same purchase list, from large main-shaft bearings to everyday replacements. The biggest risks are an incomplete assembly, such as one missing sleeve or locking part, and required dates that are not set per item. Shutdown coordinators and stores controllers want each line tied to a work order and a date.
- Reference each critical item to its asset or work order number and set a required date before the shutdown starts.
- Check every tapered-bore bearing against its adapter sleeve, lock nut and housing so that each assembly is complete on the day.
- Confirm dimensions, handling needs and lead time early for large-size bearings, since they are harder to substitute during a shutdown.
- Reconcile routine restocking lines against current stores balances to avoid duplicate or missing quantities.
